Tax Day Freebies and Deals to Look for This Year

Tax Day is one of the most stressful "holidays" of the year. To help take the sting out of paying Uncle Sam and relieve the anxiety of rushing to file on time, a number of stores and restaurants have offered deals in previous years to mark the tax deadline — Monday, May 17, this year. Many deals may still be announced and some offers are valid only at participating locations, so be sure to contact your local store or restaurant. Here are deals that have been verified, as well as others to keep a lookout for.

Great American Cookies has been sweetening Tax Day for a few years now. For 2021's Tax Day, the national bake shop is continuing their tradition of treating customers to one free chocolate chip cookie.

Great American Cookies' sister brand, Marble Slab Creamery, is also offering up a freebie this year. On May 17, customers can get a regular ice cream along with purchase of a regular or best value ice cream at participating locations. Visitors to co-brand stores that include both Marble Slab and Great American Cookies must select just one freebie between the two; decisions, decisions.

This year, you can earn 1,000 Rapid Rewards bonus points for Southwest Airlines if you use TurboTax to file your taxes by the May 17, 2021 deadline. Just in time for newly reopened summer travel.

Customers have enjoyed Tax Day specials for several years at Boston Market, which has previously offered buy-one-get-one deals and select meals marked at tax-season-inspired prices of $10.40 and $10.99.

The Bruegger's Bagels chain has in the past hosted an annual Tax Day bagel bonanza for years now with a $10.40 Big Bagel Bundle that includes 13 bagels and two tubs of cream cheese.

White Castle previously offered 15 percent off any in-restaurant order for Tax Day with a special coupon.

In past years, participating Hardee's gave away one free sausage and biscuit to visitors on Tax Day.

Grab double the breakfast or lunch on Tax Day with two deals from Farmer Boys. Get two double cheeseburgers or two breakfast burritos for just $10.40. Valid May 17 all day.

While perhaps not specifically Tax Day related, Applebee's often has new tequila drinks for May, typically going through Tax Day. This year, customers can try  the Tipsy Shark or Strawberry Daq-A-Rita for $5 each, through May 23.

For years now, Kona Ice has had another name for Tax Day: National Chill Out Day. The shaved-ice-truck franchise has typically offered a freebie to one and all. Keep an eye on the Kona near you for this year's deal.

Drive-in fans should keep Sonic in mind on May 17. The national chain has had a tradition of offering half-price cheeseburgers all day on Tax Day.

In past years, diners have celebrated the end of the tax season by munching on free chips and queso (with any purchase) at California Tortilla, if they knew the password, such as "Tortilla" or "Chipping in" when ordering. Stay tuned to see if there will be a password this year.
