Score Wars

This year has been a rocky one for the wallet, with a coronavirus-fueled economic downturn that put millions of Americans out of work practically overnight. Struggling to make ends meet, many Americans have resorted to usingcredit cards and other forms of debt simply to cover everyday living expenses. Against this backdrop, WalletHub has released aranking of the states by average credit score, using TransUnion data of scores compiled from residents in September of this year. (The average person's score is 680, which is below what's considered good. "The number to strive for is at least 750, which marks the beginning of the excellent credit range," WalletHub says — but none of our states attain it.) Read on to find out where your state lands in the pack, which is ranked worst to best.
