Reopening? Not So Fast

Cities and states are pushing forward with plans to reopen the economy, though top U.S. health experts continue to warn about the dangers of moving ahead too quickly, possibly making a second big wave of COVID-19 infections more likely. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, told the Senate that states will face “serious consequences” if they move too quickly, and many Americans seem to take such warnings to heart: A weekly survey of consumer attitudes about the pandemic shows there are many places we’re still not willing to go, even if government officials allow us to. Here are the top responses.

The Movies

How Many Plan to Stay Away: 55%
So much for summer blockbusters. Well over half of respondents plan to continue avoiding movies and theaters, potentially complicating the picture for everything from Marvel’s “Black Widow” to Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch.”
