Meat Prices Are Up
With processing plants nationwide shutting down or slowing production amid the coronavirus pandemic, meat prices are expected to spike. A recent report from CoBank predicts that supplies in retail grocery stores across the country could soon drop as much as 30%, while prices may rise a whopping 20% over last year. To see how much the pandemic has already affected prices, we reviewed consumer price data just released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to see how average prices per pound of meat in U.S. cities in April compared with prices in February (before the pandemic’s impact truly began to be felt).
