Pining for some chicken made with less, well, chicken?

The good news: KFC is rolling out its vegan fried chicken nationwide. The bad news: The Beyond Meat item, available in six- or 12-piece orders with dipping sauce included, will only be available for a limited time.

KFC debuted vegan nuggets and boneless wings in Atlanta in 2019. The response was positive, to say the least: The new additions sold out in five hours. Testing continued in select California, North Carolina, and Tennessee markets.

If your mouth is watering, take note: This won't be the only Beyond Meat hitting fast-food restaurants. Last year, the brand announced it would be making exclusive plant-based products for other Yum brands including Pizza Hut and Taco Bell. And meat alternatives are already on the menu at a host of fast-food joints, including Burger King, White Castle, and Chipotle, which announced the launch of vegan chorizo this week.

For strict vegans, KFC Beyond Fried Chicken may be a hard sell, as it's made using the same equipment as what's used to make KFC's regular fried chicken. The fast-food chain is hoping hiring YouTube influencer Liza Koshy for an ad campaign will reach "flexitarian" fast-food lovers looking to add some vegan choices to their diets.
