The popularity of A-frame cabins soared from the mid-1950s through the 1970s as Americans with disposable income looked for inexpensive ways to build a vacation home. While they might not be as popular as they once were, A-frames still have their dedicated enthusiasts, many of whom have renovated vintage structures and offered them for rental on Vrbo and Airbnb. Ashford, Washington | Sleeps 2

Just a few miles from Mount Rainier National Park, this remodeled 700-square-foot cabin surrounded renters with nature – they can be on the banks of the Nisqually River after a less-than-a-minute stroll — but also has a TV, DVD player, and Wi-Fi to keep them 21st-century connected.

Though on the smaller side, the A-frame's remodeled kitchen has everything needed to cook meals at home, all with a wooded wonderland view.
